Still and essences in the shop!
Table Top Air Stills and Turbo Yeasts, Charcoal .

Those in the know say to use a triple still yeast to make a wash for the still.

Still includes a smart pack of carbon and smart rings

The still works more efficiently and smoother if you add a packet of smart rings to the still with the wash. It takes about three hours to produce a bottle of distillate.

Pur away the first teaspoon ful as it tastes of the metal coil, then take off just 75cl of distillate.

This will be at about 60%, if you make it up to a litre with cold water it gives you about 40%.

You can pull off up to a litre of distillate but after the first 75cl the taste is not as good!

Table Top Still - Alcohol Still

This is the complete still, the picture shows the white plastic pot which holds the carbon filter. The clear plastic container is also supplied and is for collecting the distillate. The whole machine is  about the size of a glass demijohn and is very compact and easy to use.

This  low temperature still is also used in New Zealand for making alcohol. But must not be used in the UK for this purpose.

Plugs into the mains in the UK.

Takes about 3 hours to distill 75cl of alcohol at 60%. Dilute with tap water up to a litre and it's about 40% which is fine for drinking!

How do you use it? Easy! here's how they do it in New Zealand--remember it's illegal in the UK to do this...

Buy a triple still yeast from this page and follow the instructions on it to make 5 gallons of wash- This is just like making a wine or beer except you just use the triple still yeast and sugar!

Afterr a week syphon off your wash into a clean container and add a turboklar finings you can buy on this page!

Tip 4 litres of nice clear wash(thats's what you made off the triple still yeast!!) into your still, there's a mark on the inside so you can see where to fill it!

Plug it in and run off 75cl--it drips out slowly--it takes about three hours to start, so wait!

Most people throw away the first tablespoon of alcohol as it doesn't taste so good..The next 75cl is great!

That's it!! 75cl of alcohol at 50% --dead easy!!

YOu can then add any of the flavours and essences you'lll find on this site!

Alcohol Hydrometer 75 to 100%

!

Alcohol Hydrometer 75 to 100% Range

Temperature compensated hydrometer, especially for use with reflux stills. Accurate in the hard to read range above 70%!

Not suitable for the stills on this page!

A small thermometer allows for temperature compensation so you get a very accurate reading.

10 degrees of temperature can mean an error in alcohol reading of 5%!

Especially important for those who are after the pure!

!

Stainless Inline Carbon Filter

!

It's a very nice piece of kit! A small stainless tube which you fill with activated carbon. The distillate drips through and it produces very pure alcohol!

It has a micro screen to prevent small particles of charcoal washing through into your alcohol and the tap allows for a slow drip for the best filtration.

Stainless mean that there is no contamination from the metal.

Made by fuselexnano

It's a nice compact size, those are 2p pieces just for scale!

The red bit is the tap, the ends unscrew so you can replace the charcoal easily.

It uses the standard granulated charcoal you can buy off this page!

Smart Pad

A copper pad that you put in the still and it replicates the effect of distilling in a traditional copper still.

It's said to impart better flavours by removing unwanted metals. They certainly look as if they've done something when you take them out.

We drilled holes in a 50mm long piece of 20mm copper tube.

It worked really well but you do have to clean it well

Smart Rings

Home Distillation Handbook

!

Home Distillation Handbook-

Purely for the sake of interest! We know none of our customers would ever distil alcohol! The book deals with making alcohol from the turbo yeast to distillation.

The Home Distillation Handbook, by Ola Norrman, describes how to make alcoholic spirits at home. Possibly the best book written on the subject, it describes in detail how you can make your own spirits.

Updated yearly, the Swedish version has sold over 100,000 books. And this in Sweden, where a super thriller sells 7,000 books in the same time frame! We now also offer the English version of "Hemmaframstallning av Sprit," the leading book in its field in Sweden for over 20 years.  NOTE: This process is illegal in some countries, as is even the construction of a distillation apparatus following the drawings in the book. It is however, information that can be read in all democratic countries. The information given in the book is not intended to encourage the manufacture of alcohol.

Raschig Saddles

You only need a few of these in the table top still- these are really meant for bigger stills and higher volumes.

A 1 Kg bag of Raschig saddles. An alternative to the rings.

About a litre in volume.

Like the rings these are made for use in stills and are a high quality product

Raschig Rings

!

Raschig Rings

A litre bag of Raschig rings.

For use in reflux stills, they allow for smaller columns. These are about 6mm and high quality ceramic. They are designed specifically for use in stills and are not to be confused with the inferior products you can obtain from aquarium suppliers.

They should be cleaned periodically to prevent unwanted odours, you can do this by putting them in the dishwasher.

The bag weighs just over a Kg.

Thermostatic Heater 42 to 55 C

!

Thermostatic Heater 42 to 55oC

Alcotec Vodka Star Turbo Yeast

!

Ideal for pot stills (but works well with a reflux still too), with their lower capability of reducing impurities - or indeed anytime you want to produce the cleanest possible wash.

Tolerates high temperatures
It has another interesting property - although that wasn't exactly what we developed it to do; It performs very well at extreme (high) temperatures. Compared to most other turbo's out there, the VodkaStar will actually produce a good moonshine wash even at ambient temperatures of 35C.
When to use it

When a very pure wash is required - i.e. mainly if you use a pot still which doesn't separate out impurities as well as a reflux still. We originally developed it for all the pot still users out there but "Pot Still Turbo" is such a boring name and it does have some interesting use even for reflux still users or indeed even as a high alcohol kit (making moonshine without distillation). It can also be well worth experimenting with this turbo + a reflux still and using less than normal activated carbon which should turn out cheaper for the same quality. As a high alcohol kit; This turbo is the best in the Alcotec range if you wish to use your ash with essences directly without any distilling. You may still want to experiment with using activated carbon though (check out our liquid carbon solution due to be released in 2004).

Alcotec24 - 24 Hour Turbo Yeast

!
very fast fermenting yeast. Will produce 14% Alcohol in 24 hours! Makes 30 bottles

Home alcohol ethanol distillation has never been simpler! Prepare your wash as usual, add one Alcotec Turbo Pure 24 (turbo yeast), sit down with a cold beer and watch the explosion happen....

Not only does the Alcotec Turbo Pure 24 ferment faster than anything else on the planet, it also produces superclean vodka out of your still, ready for treatment with activated carbon filters and essences.

Forget what the home distillation handbook says about temperature sensitivity! Alcotec 24 will work fine between 20-30 C (68-86 F). It will ferment 6 kgs of sugar to 14% alcohol in only 24 hours.

!

Alcotec48 Dual Yeast

!

It can ferment 25 litres of water and 6kg of sugar to produce 14% alcohol in 48 hours

Or, it will produce 20% Alcohol from 8kg sugar

Turbo Yeast: Alcotec Turbo Pure 48 is an amazing all-round superyeast for home makers of spirit. It will ferment 6 kgs of normal sugar in a 25 litre solution in 48 hours or less, even under difficult circumstances.

Forget what the home distillation handbook says about temperature sensitive fermentations, watching the temperature, problems in the summer, you name it. Alcotec 48 works in ambient temperatures up to 30 C (86 F). It will produce very clean alcohol but you should still use activated carbon filtration for optimum purification before mixing with essences.

!
It's a very popular yeast, if you're using you'lll know why already! Cheap and easy source of alcohol!

Single Strain Whisky Yeast with Amyloglucosidase

!

To Make 5 Gallons of grain mash

This is the best yeast for whiskey production. It contains amyloglucosidase, an enzyme which coverts some of the non fermentables to sugar. Here's what it says

" An enzyme of microbial origin that breaks glucoside bonds in starch and dextrins to form glucose; used in the manufacturing of glucose and for converting carbohydrates to fermentable sugars (as in beer-brewing). Also known as glucoamylase.
An enzyme of microbial origin that breaks glucoside bonds in starch and dextrins to form glucose; used in the manufacturing of glucose and for converting carbohydrates to fermentable sugars (as in beer-brewing). Also known as glucoamylase.

Alcotec 8

!

This was the first single sachet high turbo yeast.

Alcotec 8 got its name from the fact that it will ferment 8 kgs of sugar in a 25 litre solution. Alcotec 8 is a high alcohol Turbo Yeast producing 20% alcohol by volume in only 5 days - another “impossible” achievment from Alcotec.

ferments 8 kgs of sugar in 25 litres)is the best example. It is very difficult to make a high alcohol superyeast but Alcotec 8 was the first major break through in the world. In only 5 days, it will produce nearly 20% of alcohol from 8 kgs of sugar in 25 litres total volume.

The drawback with a high alcohol turbo is that it is more temperature sensitive than the "low alcohol" type. You MUST keep the liquid temperature below 24-25 C at all times or your fermentation will stick too high.

The amazing Alcotec48 is the next generation of high alcohol Turbo's. It is a "dual" turbo, you can choose if you want to ferment 14% alcohol in 2 days or 20% in 5 days and it is also much more temperature tolerant than the Alcotec 8. This turbo was launched in 2003

!

Alcotec 23% Turbo Yeast

!

Alcotec 23% Turbo Yeast

 produces up to 23% alcohol

Best used in reflux stills. It gives a massive 23% alcohol from 10kg of sugar in 25 litres of mix.

YOu'll still need the turbo klar to clear it properly. The makers say you need to use dextrose sugar, not sucrose. We seell it on the sugars page by the sackfull! We have made it with sucrose but you can only use 9kg of sugar so you don't get as much alcohol.

Alcotec Triple Still Yeast

!

Alcotec Triple Still Yeast is perfect for making a wash for the airstill! Makes 5 gallons of wash-Wash is the alcohol base you need to put into the still

Triple still yeast is a blend of high performance yeast, nutrients and bentonite. It aslo has a sachet on liquid charcoal.

This produces a very clean and pure base alcohol perfect for putting into the air still.

The charcoal turns the fermenting liquid a horrible black colour. The first time you do it you think you've done something wrong!

Most of it drops out when the yeast stops fermenting and you syphon off and leave it behind. The rest is removed using the turboklar finings!

It's important to get the liquid a s clear as you can as the charcoal traps all the off flavours and impurities.

When you put the liqiud in the airstill it needs to be as pure as possible, if it's cloudy the still will extract the off flavours and it goes in your alcohol!

A nice clean bright wash gives a nice clean flavour to the finished alcohol!

Alcotec Gold -Discontinued sorry

!

Ferments out a mighty 6 kg of sugar in 3 days. To produce 25 litres of liquor.

The new boy and the golden boy!

Gold is our newest turbo yeast. It will replace the Alcotec 6 and it does everything the old version did and a bit more. For pure fermentations, this is the turbo to use (unless you aim at hyper-purity in which case Vodka Star is your choice).

Just as the Alcotec 6, this one will ferment out 6 kgs of sugar in a 25-litre wash in approximately 3 days. The new bit is that we have used some exciting new techniques for the first time to minimise the need for activated carbon filters (yes you still need them but they will last longer and the result is better).

!

Alcotec Turboklar Finings

!

Extremely fast 24 hour fining pack.

easy to use and enough for 25 litres of wine or alcohol

The Alcotec 24 TurboKlar will clear your turbowash in only 24 hours to brightness, or near-brightness. Ready for your still, and for the final treatment with activated carbon and essences.

Alcotec 24 TurboKlar will help producing very clean alcohol with a minimum of off-flavours. Your spirit will normally need treatment with activated carbon for maximum quality but you may well find that your charcoal lasts longer because of the clean alcohol produced.

Activated Charcoal Granular

!

A bag of charcoal granules

0.4 to 1.4mm  for water purifacation or the cleaning of distilled alcohol
